GATE -Target Groups

Target Groups

  • Youths ages K-17

  • Parents

  • School Staff

  • Law Enforcement Officers

  • Social Service Agencies

Youth

The G.A.T.E. Program originally targeted middle school aged children in grades 5 through 8. The G.A.T.E. Programs targeted these age groups because they typically are the most susceptible to gang recruitment and influence. The ages of 9-14 typically are the most influential for youths and they typically will make decisions based upon there perceived personal gratification. However, since 1997 GATE America, Inc., has been conducting research into the areas of at-risk youth and violence. That research revealed that their must be a continuum of education across multiple grades far early than the fifth grade. As a result of this research two additional programs were created, G.A.T.E. Kids and R.A.D.I.C.A.L.

Parents

In addition the G.A.T.E. Program also targets the parents of these youths, by providing valuable information about gang recruitment trends, prevention tips and ways to actively become involved in a child's life.

School Staff

Research both conducted by GATE America and educators has shown that many school staff, including new teachers are not aware about gangs and the effects that they can have on an individual student, school or community. We target educators to provide them with awareness, training and techniques to intervene when they become aware of gang activity or gang related behavior.

Law Enforcement Officers

Law Enforcement Officers although they receive basic gang training, they often are not keep up to date with current trends, methods and tactics that gangs may use. Our commitment to Law Enforcement Officers is to keep them well trained to protect themselves from the dangerous of gang members, as well as provide them with skills to mentor and guide teenagers away from gangs.

Social Service Personnel

Social Service agencies are sometimes poorly funded and as a result cannot train counselors and social workers in gang awareness. We provide affordable training to provide them with awareness, training and techniques to intervene when they become aware of gang activity or gang related behavior
