The partnership between law enforcement and educational agencies is an essential ingredient to the program's success and a formal agreement is a required element of the enrollment process. Please refer to the Agency and school guidelines for further information. In addition, Instructor Selection offers guidelines to assist in the selection of instructors being considered for training.
If you already have the G.A.T.E. Program in your community's school district, and a formal agreement has been established in writing, there is no need to duplicate the agreement. Simply submit a photocopy of your existing agreement with each application for training.
If a formal agreement does not exist, we strongly suggest that each organization draft an agreement.
A second essential ingredient to the program's success is the educational agency's commitment to allow the Instructor to interact with the children not only in the formal classroom setting but also informally on the playground or in the cafeteria. These informal occasions greatly enhance the rapport-building process between the Instructor and the children. The informal time with the children is an important part of the program and should not be neglected.
The G.A.T.E. Instructor is about to embark in a very rewarding adventure. But not without demanding a great deal of physical and emotional energy. It is important that your organization support the Instructor’s efforts.
